A nanoemulsion-based delivery system for imatinib and in vitro anticancer efficacy BJPS
Karimi,Maryam; Karimian,Khashayar; Heli,Hossein.
A self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) composed of ethyl oleate, Tween 80 and polyethylene glycol 600 was prepared as a new route to improve the efficacy of imatinib. The drug-loaded SNEDDS formed nanodroplets of ethyl oleate stabilized by Tween 80 and polyethylene glycol 600 with a diameter of 81.0±9.5 nm. The nanoemulsion-based delivery system was stable for at least two months, with entrapment efficiency and loading capacity of 16.4±0.1 and 48.3±0.2%, respectively. Imatinib-loaded SNEDDS was evaluated for the drug release profiles, and its effectiveness against MCF-7 cell line was investigated. IC50 values for the imatinib-loaded SNEDDS and an imatinib aqueous solution were 3.1 and 6.5 µg mL-1, respectively.

Antioxidant flavonols from fruits, vegetables and beverages: measurements and bioavailability Biol. Res.
CROZIER,ALAN; BURNS,JENNIFER; AZIZ,AZLINA A; STEWART,AMANDA J; RABIASZ,HELENA S; JENKINS,GARETH I; EDWARDS,CHRISTINE A; LEAN,MICHAEL EJ.
Flavonols are polyphenolic secondary plant metabolites that are present in varying levels in commonly consumed fruits, vegetables and beverages. Flavonols have long held an interest for nutritionists, which has increased following a Dutch study in the early 1990’s showing that dietary intake of flavonols was inversely correlated with the incidence of coronary heart disease. The main factors that have hindered workers in the field of flavonol research are (i) the accurate measurement of these compounds in foods and biological samples, and (ii) a dearth of information on their absorption and metabolism. This review aims to highlight the work of the authors in attempting to clarify the situation. The sensitive and selective HPLC procedure to identify and...

Bioavailability of the sodium pertechnetate and morphometry of organs isolated from rats: study of possible pharmacokinetic interactions of a ginkgo biloba extract BABT
Moreno,Silvana Ramos Farias; Carvalho,Jorge José; Nascimento,Ana Lúcia; Pereira,Mário; Rocha,Emely Kazan; Diré,Gláucio; Arnobio,Adriano; Caldas,Luiz Querino de Araújo; Bernardo-Filho,Mario.
Many compounds affect the bioavailability of radiobiocomplexes as radiopharmaceuticals. Ginkgo Biloba extract (EGb) has several effects. The influence of an EGb on the bioavailability of the radiobiocomplex sodium pertechnetate (Na99mTcO4) and on the morphometry of the organs was evaluated. Rats were treated with EGb and Na99mTcO4 was injected. The animals were sacrificed; the radioactivity in the organs was counted. The results showed that EGb altered the Na99mTcO4 bioavailability in the kidneys, liver and duodenum. Morphometric analysis of the organs showed significant alterations (P<0.05), probably caused by metabolites generated by EGb and capable of altering the bioavailability of the Na99mTcO4.

Tahir,Muhammad; Khalid,Umaira; Ijaz,Muhammad; Shah,Ghulam Mustafa; Naeem,Muhammad Asif; Shahid,Muhammad; Mahmood,Khalid; Ahmad,Naveed; Kareem,Fazal.
Abstract This study was aimed to investigate the effect of bio-organic phosphate either alone or in combination with phosphorus solubilizing bacteria strain (Bacillus MWT-14) on the growth and productivity of two wheat cultivars (Galaxy-2013 and Punjab-2011) along with recommended (150–100 NP kg ha−1) and half dose (75–50 NP kg ha−1) of fertilizers. The combined application of bio-organic phosphate and the phosphorous solubilizing bacteria strain at either fertilizer level significantly improved the growth, yield parameters and productivity of both wheat cultivars compared to non-inoculated control treatments. The cultivar Punjab-2011 produced the higher chlorophyll contents, crop growth rate, and the straw yield at half dose of NP fertilizer; while...

Cycle du mercure en estuaire, baie de Seine et pays de Caux ArchiMer
Laurier, Fabien.
The Seine estuary and its adjacent region Pays de Caux are two significant sources of mercury for coastal marine environments. It is carried through fluvial means for the Seine bay and through karstic fresh water emergences for Pays de Caux's coastal area. Mercury cycle in the Seine estuary and bay is affected by additional anthropical activities. The estuary's maximal turbidity area acts like a trap and a chemical reactor for fluvial mercury. Within this area, we can confirm: (i) the non conservative behaviour of dissolved mercury; (ii) mercury enrichment of particles when comparing the Seine's and marine environment and we suggest mercury particle redistribution from the organic fraction to the oxyhydroxydes fraction. A large fraction of mercury is...

Determinación del contenido de metales pesados en las fracciones geoquímicas del sedimento superficial asociado a los manglares de la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, Colombia OceanDocs
Espinosa, Luisa Fernanda; Parra, Juan Pablo; Villamil, Carlos.

Clinical images are worthwhile in Health Sciences and their analysis and correct interpretation aid the professionals, such as physicians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, to make decisions and take subsequent therapeutic and/or rehabilitation measures. Other factors, besides the state of the disease, may interfere and affect the bioavailability of the radiopharmaceuticals (radiobiocomplexes) and the quality of the SPECT and PET images. Furthermore, the labeling of some of these radiobiocomplexes, such as plasma proteins, white blood cells and red blood cells, with 99mT, can also be modified. These factors include drugs (synthetic and natural) and dietary conditions, as well as some medical procedures (invasive or non-invasive), such as...

Drug interaction with radiopharmaceuticals: effect on the labeling of red blood cells with technetium-99m and on the bioavailability of radiopharmaceuticals BABT
Gomes,Maria Luisa; Oliveira,Marcia B. Nunes de; Bernardo-Filho,Mario.
The evidence that natural and synthetic drugs can affect radiolabeling or bioavailability of radiopharmaceuticals in setting of nuclear medicine clinic is already known. However, this drug interaction with radiopharmaceuticals (DIR) is not completely understood. Several authors have described the effect of drugs on the labeling of blood elements with technetium-99m (99mTc) and on the biodistribution of radiopharmaceuticals. When the DIR is known, if desirable or undesirable, the natural consequence is a correct diagnosis. However, when it is unknown, it is undesirable and the consequences are the possibility of misdiagnosis and/or the repetition of the examination with an increase of radiation dose to the patient. The possible explanation to the appearance...

MOBILITY AND BIOAVAILABILITY OF HEAVY METALS AND METALLOIDS IN SOIL ENVIRONMENTS J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Violante,A; Cozzolino,V; Perelomov,L; Caporale,A.G; Pigna,M.
In soil environments, sorption/desorption reactions as well as chemical complexation with inorganic and organic ligands and redox reactions, both biotic and abiotic, are of great importance in controlling their bioavailability, leaching and toxicity. These reactions are affected by many factors such as pH, nature of the sorbents, presence and concentration of organic and inorganic ligands, including humic and fulvic acid, root exudates, microbial metabolites and nutrients. In this review, we highlight the impact of physical, chemical, and biological interfacial interactions on bioavailability and mobility of metals and metalloids in soil. Special attention is devoted to: i) the sorption/desorption processes of metals and metalloids on/from soil components...

Nickel adsorption and desorption in an acric oxisol as a function of pH, ionic strength and incubation time Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Mellis,Estêvão Vicari; Casagrande,José Carlos; Soares,Marcio Roberto.
ABSTRACT Although nickel (Ni) has both important potential benefits and toxic effects in the environment, its behavior in tropical soils has not been well studied. Nickel adsorption-desorption in topsoil and subsoil samples of an acric Oxisol was studied at three pH values (from 3.0 to 8.0). Adsorption-desorption isotherms were elaborated from experiments with increasing Ni concentration (5 to 100 mg L-1), during 0, 4, and 12 weeks, using CaCl2 0.01 and 0.1 M as electrolytic support in order to also verify the effect of Ni-soil time contact and of ionic strength on the reaction. Experimental results of Ni adsorption fitted Langmuir model, which indicated that maximum Ni adsorption (71,440 mg kg-1) occurred at subsoil, after 12 weeks. Nickel affinity (KL)...

PHOSPHORUS IN ORGANIC WASTE-SOIL SYSTEMS R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Fuentes,Bárbara; Bolan,Nanthi; Naidu,Ravi; Mora,María de la Luz.
Increases in the generation of organic wastes, in addition to decreases in natural resources, make it necessary to recycle these waste materials. In soils, the application of wastes as organic fertilizers, allows to reincorporate nutrients to the biogeochemical cycles. The application of wastes in agriculture has carried out with it problems associated with phosphorus (P) overapplication in soils and contamination of water bodies. Phosphorus inside the waste matrix forms organic and inorganic compounds which have different bioavailabilities. The more important factors that influence the bioavailability of P in soils, organic wastes and soil-organic waste amendments are: the soil solution pH, adsorption reactions, organic matter, phosphatase activity and...
